Why the saw blades are disposable?

Single Use Device : According to the Food and Drug Administration a single-use device, also referred to as a disposable device, is intended for use on one patient during a single procedure. It is not intended to be reprocessed.

Reusable Device : Reusable medical devices are devices that health care providers can reprocess and reuse on multiple patients.

As we are ACF Medical, we are producing surgical saw blades for single-use. (Not reprocessable)

All product quality tests are made for single using.

The reprocesses of saw blades (if the procedures required in reprocesses are strictly followed) are more longer and costly than the new product manufacturing process. The saw blade loses its performance in 10-15 cuts (approximately 1 operation). Because the saw blade teeth are damaged a lot while cutting bone due to friction.

If a disposable device will be used a second time, its performance needs to be proven.

The manufacturer or authorized companies/institutions can reprocess the device.

If cutting process is performed with a blunt blade, the friction time and therefore the heat generated in the bone will increase as the blade cannot effectively cut the bone.

This will cause thermal burns and will be lengthen the patient’s recovery time.

Another hazard is the accumulation of tissues and proteins of the previous patient among the burrs formed in the teeth after using a blade.

If there is no effective cleaning, disinfection and sterilization, these substances are likely to pass to the next patient.
